On my last update on Oct. 31, 2021 I wrote: “First let’s start with some good news. The NY Boulders season (and their fireworks) ended in the middle of September and their 2022 season isn't going to begin until the end of May; giving the Hi Tor Shelter animals a temporary respite from the threatening fireworks.” Unfortunately I was wrong. A large event is scheduled for tonight (Dec. 5, 2021) at Boulder Stadium, and prominently displayed in all the ads is “a spectacular fireworks display.” Even off season those poor animals at Hi Tor can’t get a break. The Boulders are probably advertising their stadium to rent out for events, and pushing firework displays. What hasn’t changed is Shawn Reilly is still ignoring me, and apparently the Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht, who (over 2 months ago) said he will set up a meeting with me, Reilly and himself. Can Reilly keep ignoring everyone?
Carolyn Swearingen, a fellow animal lover, wrote this form letter:
To Shawn Reilly,
Please switch your Boulders Stadium show to a noiseless firework display or a laser show. You have been emailed a list of places to acquire these. The fireworks are traumatizing to the shelter pets at Hi Tor Animal Care Center. They are in cages and have no escape from the noise. They can't climb under a bed and hide. They can't run into a closet to get away from noise. They are completely terrorized and forced to endure this terror. Why? Because of entertainment that no-one thinks twice about once it’s over. An entertainment that you provide. An entertainment that could easily be switched to noiseless fireworks or a laser show. Additionally they are also traumatizing to human beings. There are veterans living nearby, who suffer from PTSD. When you insist on continuing to use the noisy display, you are triggering veterans to go into an extremely bad mental place. They too are terrorized. These are people who fought for our country. Fought for YOUR freedom. The least you can do is thank them for their service by alleviating their emotional distress. One that YOU are currently causing. For these reasons we KINDLY ask that you stop with the noisy firework display, and switch to a noiseless form. You can add music to these which will not traumatize both our veterans and our pets. Thank you.
Best Regards,
Carolyn suggests you simply copy and paste it. Add your name to the bottom, write whatever subject line you want, and mail it to: sreilly@nyboulders.com I also see a new email on their website: shawnr@nyboulders.com. Feel free to amend the letter to make it your own.
No Mr. Reilly if you ignore us, we will not go away. We will be persistent, and show you WE care about the welfare of our 4 legged friends at Hi Tor as well as our Veterans and others with PTSD. It is so easy to switch to noiseless fireworks, drones, lasers, or another form of entertainment and show you also care.
