First let’s start with some good news.  The NY Boulders season (and their fireworks) ended in the middle of September and their 2022 season isn't going to begin until the end of May; giving the Hi Tor Shelter animals a temporary respite from the threatening fireworks.   Those animals are happy the Boulders didn’t make the playoffs.  Even though the abused animals at the Shelter can’t vote; I mistakenly thought the fact that this is an election year (with many of the incumbents up for reelection) would be advantageous to their cause.   Shawn Reilly who has direct control over the Boulder’s fireworks and who this petition is directed to, is not an elected  Official and has never answered my emails or returned my telephone calls.  I have however heard back from the Offices of the politicians I wrote to, and an amazing thing happened.  Both Ed Day (Rep) ,the Rockland County Executive and Ken Zebrowski (Dem), a  NY State Assemblyman told me the same thing: That they had no jurisdiction over the Boulders and therefore could not do anything to help.  They said only the Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht has that jurisdiction.   When was the last time you heard both parties say the same thing?  Last month I had a meeting with Mr. Specht and told him we are not asking the Boulders to stop their fireworks but just to switch to noiseless ones or another form of entertainment that would not terrorize the animals next door or traumatize Veterans or others with PTSD.   Mr. Specht was cordial and said he will set up another meeting with me, himself, and Reilly to discuss the alternatives.   That never happened.  For some reason it seems Reilly (who doesn’t seem to care about the animals, or the Veterans) has complete carte blanche, and feels he doesn’t have to answer to anyone.  Unfortunately the problem is not settled. I will keep working on it and you can keep asking your friends to sign the petition (2061 signatures so far).  And let’s also end with some good (?) news.  Ground has been broken for an $8.3 million dollar replacement shelter for Hi Tor    https://rcbizjournal.com/2021/10/21/long-awaited-hi-tor-shelter-replacement-breaks-ground/  .  The shelter is proposed to be over three times the size of the current one.  However, the new shelter will be built in the same area as the old one; next to the Boulder’s Stadium.
