We would rather have the same amount of tax money used to give our sheltered pets a chance to be rescued rather than automatically being used to put down our animals.

Dr. Joe Roundy who is running the Tooele County Animal Shelter, he wants a certain amount from a rescue group or from anyone to save these animals depending on how long they have been there to be rescued or adopted. Otherwise, Dr. Roundy is PAID by Tooele County to put these precious animals down when they could have been saved. Rescue groups do not have this kind of money available to rescue animals. Most shelters are very happy to have help from rescue groups (at NO charge to them) so they don't have to put animals down.

Dr. Roundy is paid by our county tax money to put animals down (any pet that has not been picked up by its owner during the required 5-day hold period--healthy, young, all pets). Our county taxes pay Dr. Roundy to put down all of these precious animals. This is VERY wrong and it needs to be stopped IMMEDIATELY!

Some of us have been working hard to have this changed, but County Commissioner Shawn Milne needs to know from many Tooele County residents that we would rather have this same amount of tax money used to give our pets a chance to be rescued rather than automatically being used to put down our animals after their 5-day hold-period is up. We can also let our new Commissioners know how we feel after they begin next month. It costs the same either way, so why not save as many as we can.

Our animals that end up at the Tooele County Shelter deserve to have a chance at getting rescued just like the animals that end up at the Tooele City Shelter or the Grantsville City Shelter do (or like they do at most Utah shelters).

Please sign this petition to let County Commissioner Shawn Milne  know right now that you would like our county to pay the same amount for our animals to be rescued as they now pay to have them put down. Also, please share this petition to spread the word. Our precious pets need us to speak up for them.

We can all help save these precious animals that can have a chance at a new life in a new home. It is as easy as signing this peition to get our point across.

Like I said it costs the county and the tax payers the same amount if the animal is either rescued, adopted, or put down. So lets all help as much as we can and save animals like this.

You can contact Tooele County commissioner Shawn Milne at (smilne@co.tooele.ut.us & call him at 435-843-3150).
