Support the Growing of Industrial Hemp in Shasta County

Support the Growing of Industrial Hemp in Shasta County
The Issue
SIGN TO SUPPORT THE GROWTH OF INDUSTRIAL HEMP IN SHASTA COUNTY!!!
As part of the 2018 farm bill act, Industrial Hemp was legalized to be grown in the United States as a standard agricultural commodity. Industrial Hemp as we know it today has thousands of uses in textiles, food additives, pharmaceuticals, and building materials.
One of the most prominent uses have been from CBD and other cannabinoids extracted from Industrial Hemp. CBD and other compounds have been used by millions for cosmetics, ointments, and many other food additives, and homeopathic remedies. In addition, the FDA has approved the drug Epidolex that is made from CBD.
Industrial Hemp is not “Recreational Marijuana” and has no psychoactive effect on humans. Essentially, it does not get you “HIGH”. It is regulated by the US Department of Agriculture and the the California Department of Food and Agriculture and has stringent testing and regulatory safeguards in place.
Here in our beautiful Shasta County we have ideal farming conditions for many different types of agricultural crops. We represent a consortium of existing farms that desire to add industrial hemp as an alternative crop to be grown. Previously, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors had a moratorium on growing Industrial Hemp in Shasta County.
At the beginning of March that moratorium ended. The county now has the option of banning it completely or approving an ordinance to allow it to be grown in Shasta County. We are seeking supporters of an ordinance for the farmers in Shasta County to grow Industrial Hemp. This petition will go directly to the Shasta County Board of Supervisors.
Will you please sign this petition and support our right as farmers? Thank you for taking the time to read and sign.
