Now IS The Time For Universal Healthcare

Vermont in 2011 became the first state to commit itself to achieving universal, equitably financed healthcare as a public good by 2017, making it a beacon of hope for struggling patients and providers across the country.
This week Governor Peter Shumlin made the stunning announcement that he believes now is "not the time" for Vermont to move forward with implementation of the law, Act 48, which thousands of Vermont residents fought for and won in 2011. He asked the state legislature not to take up legislation that would eliminate crippling insurance premiums and out-of-pocket costs, replacing them with lower, more equitable taxes adequate to provide high-quality care for everyone in the state.
Tell Senate President John Campbell and House Speaker Shap Smith that our very lives are at stake, and that they must lead if the Governor will not. Tell the legislature to end the healthcare crisis in Vermont's communities by enacting the will of the people, following the law and move towards the country's first universal, publicly financed healthcare system. The whole country is watching.
Whether you live in Vermont or not, tell Vermont legislative leaders your story and why it's so important for you that Vermont succeeds in creating a just healthcare system to serve as a model for the country.
