There are dogs living near me that have been chained up for over a year and a half 24/7!
It's a known saying that dogs are a man's best friend. Yet, its still socially acceptable to treat a pet like an object than part of the family. It’s hard to comprehend people having a dog to be tied up 24/7.
Dogs that are scarred around the neck where the chain was too tight, dogs who are scared or aggressive because they aren't socialized and are beyond weary of strangers. I drive through my community and see dogs chained to trees whether it's raining, snowing, or incredibly hot. There's no restriction on this other than they must have food, water, and shelter. That rule is hardly enforced. 14 counties in Georgia don’t have a tethering or chaining law. Walker County is one of the largest counties in Georgia and I believe should be setting the example. There's little support when it comes to the shelter and the animal advocates. It's time to speak up for these animals. It's time to lead by example. The animals deserve better than life on a chain.
