We are getting close to 1700 people that have added their voice to the cause of Protecting the Dark Sky.
I again thank each and every one of you for taking the time to be a part of this and for putting your name behind the effort to make change. You are all amazing and rock stars in your own rights!
I am going to be going into meetings over the next couple of weeks to see if we can find other methods of getting our voices heard on the subject.
Although we are looking at this petition of Protecting the Dark Sky being a local problem of just the Calgary Ring Road lighting, the honest answer is that this a global problem that is and needs to be looked at.
The impacts of artificial lighting are becoming more and more an issue that is being seen and felt all over the world. Scientists are doing many studies and producing documentation of their finding showing how devastating the lighting is that we use, even when the lighting is not needed.
Suzanne Oel (Division 4 Councillor) contributed a link from the International Journal of Science about how artificial lighting is harming the natural world that is a very good read (https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-018-00665-7).
We also have a video by Maureen Luchinger, the Education Coordinator of the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area about birds and the impact of light pollution in the Dark Sky.
Please keep the conversation going and thank you again for being a part of this!
