Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria or The Empty Box and the Zeroth Maria is a light novel created by Eiji Mikage that absolutely deserves an animated adaptation.

Kazuki Hoshino is a normal school boy with nothing special about him — until he meets Aya Otonashi, the new transfer student who declares that it is her 13,118th time meeting him.

This is the start of (in my humble opinion) an utter masterpiece. To this day, I cannot think of a plot as intricate and extraordinary as the Zeroth Maria. It has romance, it has mystery, it has paranormal and thriller vibes, and it has a beautiful cast of characters to tie it all together.

The best rated light novel on myanimelist is this novel.

Of the top three, this is the one that hasn't been adapted yet. If this isn't reason enough ask yourself why isn't this adapted? then I don't know what is. We have all loved this book to death, so it's about time we make it happen.

Who will make this happen?

Shaft. This studio has had very successful adaptations of some abstract and complex storylines such as Madoka Magica and the Monogatari series. They are well-equipped and could really pull this off.

Madhouse, J.C Staff, and A-1 Pictures are also nice options. Frankly I'd love if anyone could adapt it.
