Our local playgrounds in the Illawarra, especially Bulli and Woonona have zero shade. The temperature of the equipment is dangerously hot in Summer time, and exposure to UV rays is concerning for children’s health. 

The addition of shade structures and trees in close proximity to the playground, would reduce the surface temperature of equipment and ground areas, creating a more comfortable microclimate for families to enjoy outdoor play and physical activity. Currently, the playgrounds are often too hot for children to play at safely, meaning families are missing out on the benefits of playing outdoors at a community playground. 

Ask Wollongong City Council to plant trees and/or at least add shade structures to Bulli and Woonona playgrounds to create a safe an enjoyable spaces for families.

Thirroul playground has native trees as well as shade cloths. We are asking for the same safety measure at Bulli and Woonona.
