SH1 Waitati Speed Reduction

SH1 Waitati Speed Reduction
The issue
The Blueskin General Store, the Waitati turnoff, a bus stop, and a parking lot are located on SH1 Waitati where the speed limit is 100 km/h. Crossing this road on foot is perilous, as visibility is poor in both directions. Cars coming from the south are almost invisible until they're dangerously close, and seeing cars from the north is difficult, especially with a truck parked nearby. This is particularly alarming for those with prams or mobility challenges. Pulling into or out of the parking lot is also daunting. Moreover, southbound drivers often cross double yellow lines and exceed safe speeds when turning into Waitati. Given the frequent accidents (including the recent one) between Waitati and Waikouaiti, we urge the New Zealand Transport Agency to reduce the speed limit on this section of SH1 to 70 km/h and install new signs to enhance safety and reduce fear for all road users.
