As a whole, JROTC benefits the community but somehow we are always put in the dark. We do much more than people even know. There are many benefits to the students who are in the program as well: leadership positions, volunteer opportunities, and many more things. JROTC is a student-led program. Many make the assumption that members of JROTC are forced to join the military (This is not true). Students join the program to learn first aid, hone leadership skills, develop personally and learn everyday skills needed to survive in the modern world. Our program is on the verge of getting completely cut, which will negatively impact those already involved as well as future members. Our Instructor, SFC Stephen Hardee puts in many hours to support his students with their teams all year long. Our teams have put in constant effort all year long but have just been informed that they as well can’t compete. These teams were 1st and 2nd place for the past 3 plus years. We can’t let all their work go to waste.
