Dear Friends, I want to share with you some good news. Earlier today, Galileo staff received an email from Assistant Superintendent Bill Sanderson announcing the relocation of Michael Reimer from Galileo. You may view the message in the link below. As Reimer departs Galileo, a beloved and retired administrator of Galileo and SFUSD Margaret Chiu will be stepping in as an interim and support Galileo until a new principal is selected and appointed. This is great news for both Bettie Grinnell and the Galileo Community—as the inequitable staffing practices at Galileo will come to an end. Although the letter did not address Grinnell’s staffing change, we can expect the new administration to right the wrongs done by their predecessor and retain Grinnell in the Main Office—a place Chiu worked in alongside with Grinnell from 2002 to 2006. Thus, I declare victory on our petition to retain Bettie Grinnell in Galileo’s Main Office. I want to take a moment to appreciate the SFUSD Board of Education and the High School LEAD team for their timely intervention of Galileo’s ongoing issues. However, it is YOU who made this happen! Your contribution to this campaign has shed light on the problems previously unknown to the Board and Central Office. It is YOU who supported Grinnell and the Galileo community by standing up against the ethical flaws. It is YOU who created momentum pushing for a change. I want to thank YOU—on behalf of Bettie Grinnell and Galileo—for your support and effort in this campaign. We did it! As my mission has come to an end, I want to wish everyone a wonderful rest of your summer and a fresh start in the new school year! It has been my pleasure organizing this petition, and I personally thank you for your support. I wish Galileo its best of luck in its transition. GO LIONS! Sincerely Yours, Yuyang Zhong
