Sex-Education & Sexual Health Standards

The Issue

Create a nationally standardised sexual education program implemented in all public schools:
There’s a stigma around sexual and reproductive health when it comes to sexual intercourse which can cause much more harm than good. It doesn’t matter a person’s sexuality, anyone can think they know all the facts when in reality they only got their information from unreliable sources. When I was in 5th grade I remember having “the talk” with my parents. I know many other people who had to go to separate classrooms, one for girls, the other for boys for either the talk or sex-ed. The issue is that if we separate the two sexes during sex-ed, there will be a significant gap of knowledge between the two sexes. As someone who grew up in a household with all guys there was a lot I didn’t know about women and feminine physiology, so when I got a girlfriend there was a significant amount I needed to learn. If my class had learned more about sexual health, both sexes anatomy and physiology, the majority of myths would be easily eliminated.

Educate boys and young men on feminine hygiene and anatomy, pornography is fake, and consent from a very young age:
From a very young age, for boys especially, we should push the narrative of not hypersexualising and objectifying women especially in the media. For young girls we should not normalise young girls wearing leggings. This hypersexualisation of women by societal perversion is significantly to blame for the outrageously high amounts of sexual assault, rape, and murder caused by men. 1 in 5 women have faced rape in their life, with in that demographic, 1 in 3 were between the ages of 11 and 17 (National Sexual Violence Resource Center). Young men especially need to learn how to know when they’re mature enough to truly date anybody.

Emergency Contraception affordability:
Levongesterel (best known as Plan B) is a form of emergency contraception that has a 94% success rate if taken within the first 72 hours after having unprotected sex. The problem is that, like condoms, it’s become something that is disproportionately priced considering that it costs less than one cent to manufacture a single pill. Despite this, pharmaceutical companies continue to keep the average prices for a single pill to around $32 (name brand levonorgestrel costs between $38-$50 and generic pills on average cost between $18-$22). It should not cost an individual $32 to significantly reduce the possibility of unwanted pregnancy due to improper or lack of contraception, sexual violence, or a variety of other reasons. Levongesterel shouldn’t be sold per individual pill but by multi-packs at a price of at the very most $.25/dose.
