The Issue

I have had the privilege to meet many of the homeless individuals in Fort Worth, TX, and I can attest to the fact that they are good people who genuinely do not wish to cause any trouble. However, they face a constant battle with being moved from one spot to another, despite their efforts to secure permission from property owners to camp on their land. Their camps, typically situated out of public view, often find them being evicted, which leads to unintentional littering as well as scattering their possessions onto our streets.

Homelessness is not a choice, but an urgent issue that requires compassionate solutions. It's time we take proactive steps to treat this vulnerable population with dignity and respect by setting up a dedicated campsite. This site, like the successful model in Arizona, could provide essentials like outdoor showers and dumpsters, while allowing enough space for each person to maintain their personal area.

By establishing such a campsite, not only do we provide a safe and structured environment for those who need it most, but we also ensure that the wider community can enjoy public areas without disruption. This initiative would prevent the constant cycle of eviction and reduce pressure on urban spaces, ultimately enabling our city to address homelessness more effectively.

I believe that with cooperation from local authorities and property owners, we can make this dedicated campsite a reality. It is imperative that we create a sustainable solution that accommodates both the homeless community and the residents of Fort Worth. Allowing them a place to stay, with the consent of property owners, ensures their right to live freely while maintaining public order.

Let's invest in our community by embracing a proven model and setting up a campsite that supports our homeless neighbors. Their lives, safety, and well-being matter as much as anyone else's. Please support this initiative by adding your signature to this petition, calling on local government and property owners to work together towards implementing this essential project. Sign today and help make Fort Worth a more compassionate city for all.
