Why this petition matters

Started by Elena Semenova

Raccoons, squirrels and skunks can roam free anywhere in Aurora. They destroy our properties and our gardens, leave behind toxic droppings, carry diseases that are harmful to humans but the Animal Control does very little (if anything) about it. The domestic cats in Aurora, however, are deprived of their freedom and their right to roam freely.

Our cat was picked up in the streets of Aurora by the Animal Control and brought back home with a warning. A few days later we received a letter from the Town of Aurora stating that if our cat is found roaming around again, there will be charges laid against us.

I would like to see the town of Aurora's Bylaw that does not allow the cats to roam freely changed.  Cats are roamers and should be able to do so if the following requirements are met:

*Spayed/Neutered

*Licensed

*Up to date on all vaccinations

Outdoor cats undoubtedly have more opportunity to get physical activity through climbing, running, or exploring. Free to roam your cat has naturally less chance of gaining weight.
Outdoors, your cat is totally free to engage in instinctive behavior such as scratching.
The outdoor environment offers countless opportunities for your inquisitive cat to explore wider spaces and encounter new sights, smells, tastes, textures and experiences, stimulating their natural curiosity and wellbeing.

It should not be up to the Town of Aurora to decide whether the Aurorans keep their cats indoors or let them out.

Please sign this petition if you think that the cat owners should be the ones deciding whether to keep their cats indoors or let them out.
