Set ambitious targets for media companies to increase coverage of women's sport

The issue

In the week 9th to 16th July 2022 there were 310 articles on men's sport and only 18 covering women's sport across The Australian, Daily Telegraph and Sydney Morning Herald. That's only 5% of sports articles which covered women athletes.

This in a week that included a huge variety of top quality international women's sport from Wimbledon to the Euro 2022 women's soccer to the FIH women's World Cup hockey including our own Hockeyroos. Not to mention all the high quality domestic female sport that took place over the period.

It's a similar story across Australia's TV sports channels, while international studies confirm that coverage of women playing sport remains at less than 10% of media coverage of men playing sport.

Please sign this petition to request all Australian media companies* to set ambitious public targets to increase women's sport coverage and report progress against these targets.

*Including but not limited to The Australian, Daily Telegraph, Sydney Morning Herald, Channel 7, 9 and 10, ABC and Foxtel
