On the first Sunday of May in 2022, LOUD fences were created at Beaumaris Primary School, Beaumaris North Primary School, Haileybury College Brighton, and St Kilda Football Club. On Sunday 7th May 2023, for anyone planning on tying ribbons again this year, we are letting the organisations know this will happen.
- Tying ribbons to a fence as an act of support to victims and survivors of child sexual abuse.
- The ribbons give a voice for those who didn’t survive and for those who are struggling to be heard.
- The “Loud Fence” movement has become a global form of protest and commemoration.
- Paraphrasing Dr Dave McDonald of the University of Melbourne, LOUD fences are a visual statement of solidarity by the community. Ribbons telling stories and giving voice to the silent and silenced, at places where mass harm has occurred.
Thank you to all our Petitioners, you are giving a voice to those who didn't survive, and for those who are struggling to be heard.
