Support Sergio's Law: Protect Inmates and Communities from Sexual Violence
In Honor of Sergio Dupree Hunt Sr– A Call for Justice and Reform
My name is Danielle Williams. I am a mother, a pastor, and now, an advocate for change. I am sharing my family's story in hopes that no other parent will experience the pain and loss that I have endured.
My beloved son, Sergio, entered prison as a young man and was subjected to unthinkable trauma. While incarcerated, he was brutally assaulted by his cellmate—an event that shattered his spirit and haunted our family. Tragically, after his release, Sergio lost his life in a hit-and-run accident. The day my son lost his life in 2024 happened to be on my birthday, October 21st. Sergio used drugs to escape the pain of the prison rape. His suffering and untimely death have left a void that can never be filled.
Sergio's story is not an isolated one. Every year, countless vulnerable inmates are victimized behind bars, and too often, those responsible are not held fully accountable. That is why I am urging your support for Sergio's Law—a crucial piece of legislation that would require anyone found guilty of a sex act or stalking in prison to be registered as a sex offender both during their incarceration and after their release. This measure would ensure that these individuals are properly monitored, providing a layer of protection not only for inmates but for our communities as well.
No one should have to endure the pain that Sergio and our family experienced. By signing this petition, you are standing up for justice, safety, and the dignity of all people—inside and outside of prison walls. Please join me in demanding that lawmakers enact Sergio's Law to prevent further tragedies and to honor the memory of my son.
Sign and share this petition to help us reach lawmakers and demand immediate action.
Let your voice be heard—together, we can create meaningful change and protect the most vulnerable among us.
Thank you for your compassion and support.
With hope and determination,
Pastor Danielle Williams
