TAKE ACTION AND DEMAND THAT THE ARMY CHANGE THE OLD OUTDATED HT/WT Standard

The Issue

The United States Army’s height and weight standard has been a problem for as long as we can remember. The Army Body Composition Program affects many within the ranks of the United States Army due to the taping process, which is used to determine body fat percentage. There are many other methods that could be used in order to get a more accurate percentage, but due to funding it is not utilized. The Army has spent a tremendous amount of money on equipment for the new physical fitness test, which will cause more of our Soldiers to gain muscle. This is good and bad, because although Soldiers will become stronger, they will gain more weight due to muscle and have a greater chance at losing their career because they will be considered as being overweight. Many Soldiers are finding more unhealthy ways to help with meeting the out of date weight standard, which affects them physically, mentally and emotionally. We need our Soldiers healthy, fit and ready at all times!! We also have to look at how the food that we eat now has steroids or hormones in it, including the medication that we take. Everything plays a factor in how our bodies are built and the way we were shaped 20 years ago is not the same in today’s world. We must create a better system now!!!
