SERCO PAY UP!

The Issue

Low paid cleaners, porters, catering and security staff in Barts Health Trust, members of Unite the Union are currently on strike action against private contractor Serco. They are asking for a 30p an hour pay rise and an end to their excessive workload. Serco makes over £80 million profit yet it refuses this modest increase.

Last Saturday 15 July a demo was called in support of this struggle. John McDonnell came along to support it and raised the issue of low pay on the Marr Show the following day using a cleaner's pay slip.

Prices keep going up. We all deserve a pay rise. We, the undersigned, support this struggle and demand from Serco to:

1. Pay up- immediate implementation of extra 30p/hr

2. An end to the increased and unmanageable workload imposed by Serco.

And from Barts Health Trust

3. To intervene to ensure that the above are carried through.
