License Sanrio Anime for Streaming/DVD Release in US

The Issue

Hello Anime Fans!

If you watch anime, I’m sure you’ve heard of the new Japanese copyright law that is to go into full effect in January 2021. I am a HUGE fan of all the Sanrio anime and this new law will affect fans ability to watch these shows, as they are not licensed in the US.

I’ve been trying to get the attention of an American anime company, Sentai Filmworks, on Twitter, to (at least attempt to) license the shows for streaming and/or DVD release. I thought Sentai would be the best pick, as they have a new kids anime subdivision where they have licensed Hello Kitty anime. Also, about a year or 2 ago they licensed an anime from 2009, “Yumeiro Patissiere ”, which you’re probably wondering, “What does that have to do with the Sanrio anime?” Well, most of them are older shows, the most recent are the “Rilu Rilu Fairilu” anime and “Mewkledreamy” which is currently airing in Japan, so the fact that they have licensed an older anime before, is good for the Sanrio anime because it means they have a chance. Anyway, it’s been hard to get their attention as I am just one person, so I’m asking other Sanrio fans, that are fans of the animes or perhaps, didn’t even know they existed and would like to watch them, to help me get their attention. You can do that by signing this petition and tweeting them. It would mean a lot if you all could help out and let them know you’d like them to license the Sanrio anime.

Here is a list of the Sanrio anime: the “Onegai My Melody” series, the “Jewelpet” series, the “Sugar Bunnies” series, the “Rilu Rilu Fairilu” series and the current airing “Mewkledreamy” series.
