Recently, I had the chance to ride in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park after a long time. Interestingly, one of our members informed us that the e-bike ban is currently not being enforced, according to a ranger. Intrigued by this news, I decided to visit the area today. However, I was surprised to find an increase in the number of signs prohibiting e-bikes at the trailhead entrance. The weather was overcast, and there were only a few e-bikes and regular bikes on the trail—definitely a significant decrease compared to the high volume we experienced during the pandemic. Perhaps the weather played a role in the lower turnout. Strangely, I didn't encounter any rangers despite riding right in front of their building and through the parking lot.
If any of you have been recently stopped by a ranger in that area, we would appreciate hearing about your experience. You can share your stories here or reach out to us via email at emtbassociation@gmail.com. We're keen to gather as much information as possible.
Furthermore, I noticed that some of the fire roads were filled with ruts, resulting in a bumpy ride. Additionally, please note that the trail leading to the sewage treatment plant is currently closed for restoration purposes.
On another note, it's important to mention that if you have a mobility disability, you are still legally allowed to ride in Aliso Woods. To do so, it helps to have a mobility disability sticker. If you require one or would like more information, we encourage you to become a member of the Electric Mountain Bike Association (EMBA) and make a donation at https://www.electricmountainbikeassociation.org
. By supporting EMBA, you'll not only receive the mobility disability sticker for your down tube but also contribute to our advocacy efforts, as we strongly advocate for your right to ride on natural surface bike trails.
Please consider making a donation to EMBA and help us continue our important work. We rely solely on donations, and your support will make a significant difference. Together, we can ensure that e-mountain bikers have a voice and access to enjoyable riding experiences on natural trails.
