On Armistice Day (11/11/23) I had the remarkable privilege of taking our ever-expanding Gratitude Book to the Quaker Meeting in Brisbane. It was a wonderful opportunity to Connect with Kindred Spirits in Silence, Listening, Empathy, and Shared Commitment.

Sitting in the midst of peaceful Quaker people,  I saw that sitting there amongst us all was the remarkable Song Woman and wordsmith Aunty Delmae Barton shining her gentle smile upon all present. I’d watched that smile before when together with her equally remarkable son William Barton they presented Sky Songs: Apii Thatini Ma Murtu – We carry a coolamon and sing to country together as part of Brisbane’s Clancestry Festival.

Wow! It was Aunty Delmae, the Mother, who carries her Coolamon with its Possum Skin and green vibrant leaves, as a gracious healing for us all. The Mother, she had planted the Seed that became the Kalkadunga man now globally acclaimed for his ability to make his Didgeridoo sing unlike any other – swathed in the symphonic magic of a magnificent 45-piece orchestra. The mutual respect travelling between Mother and Son was so palpable that it seemed to be a physical entity of its own. The Strength of Generations!

Mother, Coolamon, Possum, Leaves, together formed a potency so powerful that it defied the lingering Harshness of the "NO" that had spread itself througout the Continent on that day of the Referendum.

So, I encourage you to share the Joy with your Family, your Friends, and the "Strangers" in the street – and Invite them to write their own "Thank You" Letter.  Sharing our Gratitude with First Nations people brings Healing! Join us!
