Once again Maine Maritime Academy administration is preparing to give the class of ‘23 the short end of the stick and farm its senior engineer students out to other training ships for the Summer 2023 training cruise.

After enduring the entirety of the Covid-19 pandemic through our college experience, and having a shortened, state-side freshman cruise with no port calls, we seem to have been dealt poor hands. Instead of trying to help us realize our 4 year dream of sailing around the world, MMA is preparing to send at least 40 of its senior engineers away from their friends and away from the ship we call home.

Maine Maritime Academy needs to show that it cares about its seniors and students, and the time is now. It sets a concerning precedent, pawning us off to a different academy like this after we’ve dedicated thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars to Maine Maritime.

The Golden rule states ”Treat others as you wish to be treated”, and if MMA is willing to show such disregard for those who have currently given the most, they shouldn’t expect any Alumni Donations at all from us, potentially indefinitely. Nor should they expect to be painted in a positive light to past, present and future mariners as we go forth in our careers.

Sign this petition to support the seniors of Maine Maritime Academy. What a shame, disappointment, and waste it would be for Maine Maritime Academy to treat its students like this.
