I strongly urge you to co-sponsor S. 567, the Strengthening Social Security Act of 2013.

I strongly urge you to co-sponsor S. 567, the Strengthening Social Security Act of 2013.
The Issue
Social Security represents the best of American values: rewarding hard work, honoring our parents, and providing help for those unable to care for themselves. Instead of cutting earned benefits, we can easily protect Social Security for future generations.
We are fast approaching a retirement crisis. 67% of seniors won't be able to maintain their standard of living in retirement.
Social Security makes up 50% of retirement income for 2/3 of seniors, and more than 90% of retirement income for more than 1/3 of seniors.1
Instead of making cuts to Social Security, we need to be strengthening and expanding it. There is a path to accomplish this goal: Senator Harkin's S. 567: Strengthening Social Security Act of 2013, which will:
1. Strengthen the Social Security benefit formula
2. Ensure that cost of living adjustments (COLA) adequately reflect the living expenses of retirees
3. Improve the long term financial condition of the trust fund by removing the cap on payroll taxes for high earners2
This bill currently has 3 co-sponsors: Senators Schatz [D-HI], Begich [D-AK], and Brown [D-OH]. Because retirement security is so important to the people of Washington state, we want Senator Murray and Senator Cantwell to become the next co-sponsors of S. 567!
