As the nation cheers the Larry Nassar sentencing, long-time advocates are simply thinking “one down, thousands to go”. Most victims never get their day in court. Most abusers never see a day behind bars. Most institutions that shelter abusers keep on doing so, because it’s easier and safer for them to protect predators than children. And lots of lawmakers want to keep it that way. Statutes of limitation on child sexual abuse are a predator’s best friend, and eliminating them takes a lot of political might.
