Petition updateDammed to extinction, Southern Resident Orcas are starving. Time is running out!Oregon’s Governor Kate Brown steps up to the elephant in the room!

Her recent letter to Washington’s Governor Inslee voices her assessment; “The science is clear that removing the earthen portions of the four lower Snake River dams is the most certain and robust solution to Snake River salmon and steelhead recovery. No other action has the potential to improve overall survival two-to three-fold and simultaneously address both the orca and salmon recovery dilemma while providing certainty in the legal challenge that has complicated operations for decades.”

This is HUGE!  Her courageous leadership is much appreciated and needed to further encourage the discussions necessary with political leaders.

BUT SHE IS NOW UNDER ATTACK FROM THE PRO-DAM INDUSTRY!  THE DAM’S SPECIAL INTERESTS ARE TRYING TO SILENCE HER, SO WE NEED TO SHOW GOVERNOR BROWN THAT WE HAVE HER BACK!

In addition, last April, Republican Congressman Mike Simpson of Idaho raised the idea of removing four federal dams on the Snake River, saying bold actions may be needed to reverse the decades-long decline of steelhead and salmon in the Columbia River Basin.

These are both brave actions and what we hope will be the first of many elected leaders stepping up to the plate to use their voices to help save salmon and orcas.

These two, as well as Washington’s Governor Inslee are in great position to bring leaders & stakeholders together to create solutions and map the way forward to dam breaching.

NOW WE NEED YOUR HELP TO LET THEM KNOW THEY ARE SUPPORTED AND THAT THE PUBLIC CARES.

A long awaited draft Environmental Impact Statement (crso.info) will be released on Friday, February 28th.  Will it include dam breaching as an option, or not?  How will our leaders react to it?

BEFORE FEBRUARY 28th, PLEASE MAKE THREE CALLS:
