Petition updateDammed to extinction, Southern Resident Orcas are starving. Time is running out!BREAKTHROUGH: Idaho politicians have brought up the topic of dam breaching to bring salmon back

You may have seen the headlines Apr 24 2019: ‘I want salmon back in Idaho.’ Simpson seeks bold action after $16 billion spent on recovery, and Governor Little of Idaho stated that it’s time to ‘breach the status quo’! This is a new development that can put pressure on Washington’s elected leaders to act on behalf of lower Snake River dam breaching.

As Southern Resident Orcas and endangered Chinook salmon continue to struggle, YOUR HELP IS NEEDED NOW; PLEASE CONTACT Washington Governor Jay Inslee and Washington Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and tell them that Idaho Representative Mike Simpson is right!  You will find their contact info on this webpage:  srkwcsi.org/take-action/

What to say?  Here are ideas…

IT’s TIME FOR A DAM NEW BARGAIN.

  • We can breach the lower Snake River dams and save salmon, orcas and money
  • We can make farmers, irrigators and navigators whole for far less than the $16 billion that we have spent on futile salmon recovery efforts
  • We can replace Snake River hydropower with green wind and solar energy
  • We can honor the tribes’ treaty rights to fish at their usual and accustomed fishing places
  • We can restore the livelihoods of commercial fishermen and women
  • We can restore sports fisheries and revitalize the mom and pop shops that supported them
  • We can provide economic stability to the financially strapped Bonneville Power Administration

Thank you so much for any calls and messages you are able to make!

FYI:  The Feds planned Columbia Basin salmon extinction.

In 1947 the Feds knowingly bargained away Snake and Columbia River salmon, sold out the tribes and the commercial and sports fishermen and women, and degraded a huge Pacific Northwest ecosystem, all for short term benefits for the power industry and a few special interests.
