Make Senator Leyonhjelm promise never to receive a parliamentary pension

The issue

Let Senator Leyonhjelm set the new standard for ALL parliamentarians, by renouncing any intention of receiving a parliamentary pension.

After all , we want Senator Leyonhjelm to be consistent in his views don't we!!

If Senator Leyonhjelm  considers the aged pension as welfare then so should he consider the  parliamentary pension as welfare, not an entitlement. We've been told the age of entitlement is over so why does the parliamentary pension still exist?

If parliamentarians renounce their pensions it will save all Australians a lot of money and help the budget bottom line.

Senator Leyonhjelm (Australian Federal Government) has argued for further restrictions to the aged pension saying it is nothing to be proud of receiving, shows you are poor and should be treated as welfare, not an entitlement.

Senator Leyonhjelm said Australians should "reinforce the notion" that "when you retire you will only receive the pension if you're poor and it's nothing to be proud of".

It follows that Senator Leyonhjelm should publicly renounce any intention of  ever receiving a parliamentary pension should he be in parliament long enough to receive one. Senator Leyonhjelm should view the parliamentary pension as  lucrative perk that is no longer justified or respectable, and is a form of welfare.
