IDA Pennsylvania started this petition to Senator Carolyn Comitta

Light pollution in our state has been robbing us of our dark skies, negatively impacting wildlife, our health, safety and contributing to unnecessary energy consumption as it continues to worsen exponentially year after year.

The good news is that this type of pollution is easily and quickly reversible.  Local efforts have been successful but state wide legislation is imperative to effectively address this problem once and for all.

In case you haven't heard, we have recently made great progress in Pittsburgh with the passing of a dark sky ordinance!  This is the first ordinance of its kind in the country and aims to replace the city's 35,000 streetlights to shielded low temperature LEDs as recommended by the International Dark-Sky Association.

Now is the time to move forward with a similar bill at the state level. But we can’t do it without you.  We recently had an initial meeting with our state senator Carolyn Comitta 19th District – Chester County PA to discuss the need for state wide dark sky legislation.

We need you to act now.  Please sign this petition and pass this along to like minded family, friends, and local supportive organizations like amature astronomy clubs in your area.  Please do so immediately as time is of the essence in getting legislation in place.

Sincerely,

Michael Lincoln - IDA PA President
