The Issue
We need an equitable increase in the salaries of all government employees. We are TEACHERS, nurses, policemen, government workers and not BEGGARS! The SSL 2015 is unjust. We can't have a decent kind of life for P24/day increase while the legislators and other government officials will enjoy a bigger percentage of increase. This is truly an insensitive law proposed by Sec. Abad.
The Congress seemed insensitive (and not listening!!!) to the salient points Rep. Tinio discussed about the great disparity in the salary increase among government workers and officials. We will not be persuaded with the sugar-coated promise of increase in bonuses. We need fair salary increase for a decent life!!!
The Php24/day increase is not enough for the loads of paper works that the government is asking teachers to do to promote quality education. It is not enough to buy the materials we need for teaching, for the internet load when we input our pupils online for the LIS even at the wee hours of the night, for the LCD projectors and laptops we personally buy to be abreast with technology used in classrooms , for the many other requirements that the Department of Education asks of us teachers in line with K-12, etc.
Because of our resourcefulness, hard work and patience, we are able to suffer all these. But to give us Php24/day increase is like an insult to all of us!!! Salary increase hindi barya-barya lng ang kailangan namin! We are not beggars!!!
We do what the Department of Education and the government require us to do- obeying always and not complaining. We only complain when we are treated unfairly. So please, give us the increase that we deserve so we can have a decent living and can deliver services to our pupils efficiently.
SSL 2015 may be an answer to curb politician''s corruption but on our part, it further plunges the government employees to poor state of living because the increase is not enough to buy our basic needs, to pay for the education of our children and even provide for the needs of the public school pupils that we serve.The bulk of the increase will also go to our taxes; in effect, we don't feel any increase at all.
If we want quality life for our teachers and government workers, and quality education- give us an equitable salary increase!!!
