We have great news and it's only fitting that I ask Renata Reich Moise, spokesperson for the Friends of Frenchman Bay, to tell you all about it. Renata writes: "Today the Maine State Transportation Committee met for a work session, and An Act to Create The Port Authority, Bill #1400 has been carried over to January 2018!!! It was announced in the working session that Friends of Frenchman Bay and their supporters sent hundreds of opposing emails, so many emails that the Clerk of the Transportation Committee could not fit them into packets for the members!!!!. Copies of many of the heartfelt petition comments were sent in as part of opposing testimony. We fully expected this bill to get passed from Committee and be voted on this session.Thank You!! The State of Maine has inserted language into the Option to Purchase the Ferry Terminal site (the Town of Bar Harbor signed this option on May 2nd, 2017); that language states that if the Citizen's Petition, Article #13, passes at June 13th, 2017 Town meeting, the State will void the Option to Purchase. Article #13 is an attempt at Democracy, which would put the passenger landing caps and length of docking ships in the town at current levels, requiring a town vote to change these parameters . In our opinion,this shows clearly that the plan for this huge infrastructure project is being pushed from a high level. We must continue to tweet, share this petition, talk to our friends, and all the other things we have been doing to ensure that we save Frenchman Bay and the Acadia National Park View Shed from the wrong kind of development!
