We now have 627 supporters, 372 needed to get to our first goal of 1000. If you haven't been to the site recently, please go and read these heartfelt comments. So many of you have such important contributions to make. Please know that these comments will be forwarded to Sen. Thibodeau and Rep. Gideon.
Once again, we ask that you tweet often about this issue and tag @StephenKing. Please use our hashtags, #SaveAcadia, #SaveAcadiaDarkSkies, #DontDesertMtDesert, #TooBigForFrenchmanBay. We would also appreciate your tagging @KieranSuckling, who is the Executive Director of the Center for Biological Diversity.
We can only get impressive results for this petition if everyone pulls together to share, often and publicly. Buttonhole your friends and stay on them until they all sign, too. We are getting a lot of pushback from some in Bar Harbor who don't agree with us. You will note that I have made a few edits to the petition, reiterating that the views stated in the petition are our opinion. May I say, we are entitled to it. As the opposite side is to its own. That's what makes it a democracy.
One of my favorite comments? "Always an ugly sign when governments have to come up with 'emergency measures' - if they really believed that this project was in Maine's long-term interest, why not take the time to do it right?" Well said, Gustav Steinhardt.
I would be remiss if I posted an update without always thanking the so many of you who have contributed to promote the campaign. Every $10 adds another 1000 views for our petition. With so many very worthy causes, that's what it takes to make this petition visible. Such gratitude to you all!
Thanks again for your support and share share share!
