Seeking Public Support for Proposal to Preserve Church and Property for Community Use
The Issue
There is currently a proposal under consideration by the Kaysville City planning commission that would turn the beloved church and surrounding property into a high density neighborhood filled with townhomes and small businesses. More information regarding the details and our concerns can be found under our other petition at: https://www.change.org/p/limit-high-density-and-commercial-development-in-our-residential-neighborhood?source_location=search
This petition is in regards to a new serious development proposal that needs our support as much as possible. Please read the proposal below and consider signing/sharing with as many people as you can. I believe this new proposal is perfect for the neighborhood and greater Kaysville community. The person behind the proposal has submitted a formal offer but in order to help make it a reality, it will need as much support as possible. Thank you!
Kaysville is a proud city with a rich history and a tight-knit community. Among its landmarks, the Presbyterian Church - built in 1888 - stands as a symbol of our town’s heritage and resilience. For generations, families have preserved it, and it remains a reminder of where we’ve come from.
I’d like to share a vision that not only preserves this historic building but also breathes new life into it. This vision would open the doors to the public, create a welcoming gathering place, and ensure the legacy of those who built and protected it continues well into the future.
The idea is simple, yet transformative:
• The restored church would be permanently conserved and house a small bakery, allowing the community to enjoy pastries and fresh bread within a space that celebrates its original architectural charm.
• Surrounding the church would be lush gardens, expansive green spaces, and a Victorian-style greenhouse. These spaces could host picnics, leisurely walks, community gardening, and farm-to-table produce for the bakery. The greenhouse would extend the growing season, provide fresh ingredients year-round, and serve as a warm escape during the winter months.
This vision is not merely about repurposing a building—it’s about saving a beloved landmark and turning it into a sustainable cornerstone that strengthens our community. It would encourage connection, creativity, and well-being while having a positive impact on the neighborhood around it.
Imagine the possibilities: yoga in the garden, art classes in the greenhouse, toddler playgroups and speed-friending, summertime walks, senior socials, community concerts, and a beautiful place to gather and connect.
Now, we need your help to make this a reality:
1. Sign the petition in support of this vision for the church and its surrounding grounds.
2. Spread the word to friends, neighbors, and others who care about preserving Kaysville’s history while building its future.
Together, we can honor our past, enrich our present, and create a legacy that will benefit generations to come. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I value the many voices in our community and hope that we can work together.
