The issue

For over two decades, mismanagement and corruption process in federal and state funds have plagued our communities, manifesting in environmental and civil injustices that cannot go unchallenged anymore. We are currently paying per year- billions in interest alone here in SA and trillions per year federally. Federally we were at $16 billion in surplus in 2006. Debt all paid off.  How did we get to paying trillions in interest per year in 20 years when the  G.S.T introduced is still in place?

Recently in S.A, at Possum Park, we found out the government used the last election to mandate destruction of significant trees and wildlife. They allowed complete overhaul land clearing for a golf course and MotoGP in Adelaide parklands to follow. This drastic change not only disrespects nature but also disregards community democracy and basic human rights.

The laws meant to safeguard our environment are being bypassed, prioritizing development over preservation. The swift destruction of public parklands directly contradicts our values and infringes upon our rights to peaceful protest and free speech.  Those who stand against this irreparable damage should be seen as guardians of our natural heritage. We saw in court the decision led  to immediate continuation of the land clearing, destruction of trees in the parklands and harming wildlife, whilst saying the people can appeal. Appeal when? Once the trees and wildlife are all gone? There were no consequences for Possum Park and now the domino effect of fast track destruction is continuing. This is also evident across other states federally.

The financial mismanagement has broader implications. When public funds are misappropriated or corrupted, it facilitates unchecked developments like those at Possum Park and fails to address the community's genuine needs. Every taxpayer deserves accountability and transparency concerning how their money is spent, especially when it leads to ecological destruction.

To combat this, through this petition, we urge the court to uncover the corruption of government bodies and affiliates through a comprehensive audit of federal and state funds used over the last twenty years. In addition disclosure of what public assets have been sold or used to bargain with private bodies made accountable and transparent.

Concrete steps must be taken to tighten regulations protecting both our treasures and the rights of citizens advocating for them. Establish independent oversight committees to investigate any misconduct and ensure funds are used for genuine priorities and promises kept without lies and corruption in politics. Classroom expectations mean that disrespect will no longer be tolerated in parliament. There will be no more 'pork barrelling' which is when a politician or party uses favours or taxpayer money to fund projects in communities to help win them votes. When such actions are exposed, serious criminal sentences should be imposed so that parliament is kept clean from lies and corruption. The future generations deserve to be represented by honest and transparent leaders. A method for 'direct democracy' directly involving the people in every decision must accessible via voting app or alternative, not just through members of parliament.

This call for justice and transparency is not just about protecting a park but about safeguarding the rights and voices of our community. No development should come at the cost of democracy and human rights. We demand an end to the criminalisation of peaceful protestors and insist on a say in the future of our public land.
