The Issue

Every day, hundreds of people are walking their dogs in the neighborhoods around Downtown Royal Oak. The City of Royal Oak has made great improvements to their parks in recent times; adding space for animals would be desirable to the many dog owners of the city.

Reasons to add a dog park in the southern apart of the city include:

  1. Brings the community closer together.
  2. Keeps non-pet-play areas free of dogs for other activities.
  3. Increases outdoor activities of all residents
  4. Promotes family time
  5. Improves access for SRO residents while decreasing traffic and congestion at current dog parks
  6. Creates access within walking distance of dense residential areas south of 12 mile
  7. Provides the opportunity for dogs to run and play in a secure and appropriately developed space
  8. Promotes safety for the pets
  9. Allows canine related businesses the opportunity to support a community project
  10. Increases revenues for dog-related businesses

Research has been done by other communities outlining the positives of building dog parks.
