The Issue

This petition bears personal meaning as it stems from the personal experiences of a child abuse survivor who empathizes with Na’Ziyah Harris, a 13-year-old victim of abuse, exploitation, and tragic end. Throughout her short life, Na'Ziyah was groomed by her aunt's fiancé, impregnated by him, and ultimately lost her life due to this gross misconduct. Multiple people and systems failed to protect her from such horrific instances when she needed them most.

Na’Ziyah’s family members neglected to defend her when needed most, specifically her grandmother and aunt. Equally culpable are the school system, the Child Protective Services (CPS), and law enforcement. It's lamentable that every one of these critical entities, designed to ensure a child's welfare, neglected their responsibility.

We demand justice for Na’Ziyah. Not just a ruling in her case, but justice that sets a precedent for future potential victims. We call for the prosecution of Na’Ziyah aunt and grandmother who turned their eyes blind despite being aware of the ongoing abuse. Moreover, the institutions that stayed passive despite being informed about her tragic circumstances need to be held accountable to ensure similar negligence doesn't occur again.

The trauma that abused children face deals a huge blow to their mental and emotional wellness. It is urgent that we bring to light the consequences of child abuse and neglect. Let us band together and make a stand against such heinous acts to ensure that another child doesn't fall prey to such a detrimental fate that Na'Ziyah met.

We lobby in honor of Na'Ziyah, declaring that the system and the family failed her, but we, as a collective, will strive to bring justice in her name. Please add your signature to this petition and join us in demanding justice for Na’Ziyah and all parties involved.
