Seek justice for land donors of NHPC Uri

The Issue

I am one of the many affected by the NHPC Uri 2 Project in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Our lands were acquired with the promise of fair compensation, rehabilitation, and rightful benefits. Yet, despite our repeated appeals, our genuine grievances continue to fall on deaf ears.

when the NHPC Uri 2 Project commenced, several families willingly donated their lands, believing in the promise of development and prosperity for our region. We were assured of employment opportunities, compensation packages, and a better future. But two decades later, our hope has turned into despair as the promises remain unfulfilled and justice for us feels denied.

The land donors were crucial to the development of this project, yet we have been overlooked repeatedly. Our requests for employment opportunities and fair compensation are not just demands but our rights. Our struggle is not only for our personal well-being but also for the justice of our entire region.

Moreover, development projects must honour their commitments to those who make them possible. Ensuring employment for the affected families will not only fulfill a promise but also empower our community, allowing us to contribute actively to the region's growth.

In numbers, at least 100 families have been directly affected, losing not only their land but also their main source of livelihood. This is more than an economic loss; it's a breach of trust that has persisted for many years.

We urge the authorities to address this oversight immediately by implementing the following measures:
- Facilitate employment opportunities for at least one member of each affected family, considering their skills and qualifications.
- Re-evaluate and provide the agreed compensation packages to land donors without further delay.
- Set up a rehabilitation programme that aids affected families in rebuilding their lives.

This is a plea for justice, one long overdue. If you believe in fairness and upholding promises, join us in this fight for justice. Please sign and share this petition to demand what is rightfully ours, and help initiate a positive change for the land donors of NHPC Uri.
