The Issue

Seeing AXL's photograph and reading about his tragic death in Upper Island Cove profoundly broke my heart. AXL was a German shepherd who deserved care, love, and protection, but instead, his life was cut short under circumstances that demand our attention and action. As an animal lover, I feel compelled to speak up for AXL and the countless other animals who are vulnerable and voiceless.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Newfoundland and Labrador is responsible for maintaining law and order, and ensuring justice is served for all members of the community, including our beloved pets. We are calling upon the RCMP to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding AXL’s death and to provide a public update on their findings. This is crucial not only for transparency but for ensuring that justice is served and AXL’s death is not in vain.

AXL’s story highlights a broader issue of animal welfare concerns that have possibly gone unaddressed in the area. We urge the RCMP to review prior complaints and concerns regarding animal welfare in Upper Island Cove, to determine whether existing protocols were followed adequately. Such a review could reveal gaps in the system that need to be addressed to better protect other animals in the future.

Moreover, we request that appropriate charges be laid against any individuals if evidence supports their involvement in AXL’s wrongful death. It is vital that those responsible are held accountable for their actions to deter similar occurrences in the future.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for a thorough investigation, transparency, accountability, and improved animal welfare protections in our community. Let us unite in calling for justice for AXL and safeguarding the well-being of other animals. Stand with us and let our voices be heard in memory of AXL.
