Seek clemency for Abduwali Muse
The Issue
To the United States Federal Courts and Relevant Authorities,
This petition is not an argument to excuse past actions, nor does it seek to ignore the legal realities of a nearly 34-year sentence. We recognize that a full early release or overturning of the sentence is legally unlikely. Instead, this is an urgent appeal for basic human decency, empathy, and a temporary measure of compassion.
Abduwali Muse is currently serving his long sentence thousands of miles away from his homeland, isolated from everything he once knew. While he must face the consequences dictated by the justice system, no human being, regardless of their background or past convictions, should be stripped of their fundamental right to share a final goodbye with a dying parent.
Reports indicate that his mother’s health in Somalia is failing, and she may pass away soon. The thought of someone dying while their child remains trapped behind concrete walls half a world away strips away the very essence of our shared humanity. Compassion should not be conditional, and the tragedy of a mother losing the chance to see her child one last time—and a child being denied the ability to hold his mother's hand at the end, leaves a permanent scar on our collective conscience.
We are not asking for a pardon or an avoidance of accountability. We are asking for public attention and judicial grace to grant Abduwali Muse temporary, supervised humanitarian leave or a compassionate furlough to return to Somalia to visit his mother before it is too late.
No one should be entirely cut off from the final moments of the person who brought them into this world. We urge the courts and legal authorities to look past the file, recognize the fragility of life, and allow this one act of human mercy.
Sign this petition to support basic humanitarian compassion and the right to say goodbye.
