Save Holwell Lane

The Issue

We, the undersigned, are opposed to the plan to allow a road to be built across Holwell Lane, Cheddar, which is a public right of way.

We call on Sedgemoor District Council to:

1. Refuse Bloor Homes’ proposal to build a road across Holwell Lane.
2. Insist that access to the proposed ‘Bloor north’ development is made via a separate junction onto the A371 (Upper New Road) at the north east end of the site before this application is approved.

Bloor Homes' planning application (17/19/00005) to build 134 dwellings north of Holwell Lane, Cheddar includes a plan to construct a road across Holwell Lane which has been a Public Right of Way for over 200 years.  This road would be the only access to the development, taking all traffic through the existing estate being built to the south of Holwell Lane.

Holwell Lane is very well used by walkers, joggers, dog owners, cyclists and school children as a safe route to Sharpham Road playing fields, Cheddar Reservoir and the Strawberry Line. All these users would be greatly endangered by the plan.

Additionally, the increase in traffic through the south estate would cause serious disturbance to existing residents and significant congestion at the single junction with the A371.
