I live on Jerome Lane, right where the City of Murrieta meets Wildomar. For us residents, it was a slice of peaceful suburbia until our emergency access gate, initially installed for, well, emergencies, became anything but.

Originally designated for rapid emergency ingress and egress, this gate is supposed to be locked and available only to authorized personnel. However, its continued unfastened status has disrupted this serenity, converting our quiet cul-de-sac and interior streets into a secondary, unauthorized regional bypass between Wildomar and Murrieta. Instead of being a safety feature, this gateway has become a path of daily concern.

The previous public works locks meant to secure this vital boundary have been repeatedly tampered with and cut by those seeking a shortcut without regard for the damage they are causing. This not only rewards unlawful destruction of city property but also seriously undermines neighborhood safety standards. Our houses were meant to enjoy the quiet of a cul-de-sac, not the constant hum of pass-through traffic.

This unauthorized use by through-drivers doesn’t just disrupt our community; it endangers our families, pets, and pedestrian safety. Children can no longer play freely in front of their houses, and something as simple as backing out of a driveway becomes a risky endeavor. It's unfair to let these measures of convenience for others compromise our day-to-day safety.

We are calling upon the City of Murrieta and the City of Wildomar to take immediate and decisive action. The solution is clear and enforceable: to reinforce or replace the existing emergency access gate with a secure, tamper-proof locking mechanism, and to establish a monitoring and penalty system against future infractions. Both our cities have the capacity to bring back control and peace to Jerome Lane and Rancho Mirlo.

Our appeal is straightforward—protect our neighborhoods by respecting the intended purpose of this emergency access. By doing so, you not only safeguard the safety and sanctity of our community but set a precedent for other neighborhoods facing similar issues.
