Dear supporters, last Friday after the National EV Summit, I met with the office of Energy Minister Chris Bowen, and they accepted my petition with delight! Thank you once again for your support, without which none of this would have been possible. I’m speaking to local media this week, and I’ll share the article with you when it comes out.
I was joined by Solar Citizens, Greenpeace and the Climate Council at the meeting which was very collaborative. It was clear that the government is open to implementing fuel efficiency standards, but victory will only be reached when a formal commitment is made to the Australian public.
Please keep sharing the petition to bring more people on board!
Although the government has indicated that they will take action, there is still work to be done. I am appalled at the amount of misinformation and misunderstanding around fuel efficiency standards that still exists. A lot of people are afraid that their cars will become more expensive or they’ll be forced to give them up.
As you know, this is not true. Clearly, an education campaign is needed to help people understand that fuel standards will save tax-payer money and help speed up the clean energy transition.
Please keep sharing the petition to keep the pressure on the government to urgently commit to implementing fuel standards and please keep informing the people around you of the benefits of doing this!
