Ever since I got my dirtbike, and then traded it for a quad, I’ve been on a quest to find a legal spot in Hunterdon County, NJ where I can ride. The excitement of off-road adventures has landed me with few legal options, leaving me and many other off-road enthusiasts in a frustrating situation.

Hunterdon County is a vibrant community with a rich tapestry of outdoor and sporting traditions. However, what’s missing is a dedicated area where people can legally enjoy riding dirtbikes, ATVs, and other off-road vehicles. Currently, there are no sanctioned locations in or around Hunterdon, forcing us to travel far or risk penalties by riding illegally.

Off-road riding is more than just a hobby. It’s a means for people, especially the youth, to engage in physical activity, develop technical skills, and find community. Regions where off-road parks exist report a reduction in unauthorized riding, and local businesses benefit from increased foot traffic from visitors using these parks. A legal riding area could provide a much-needed space where we can ride safely and responsibly.

Finding a suitable piece of land for this endeavor could transform locals' off-road experiences and foster a sense of community. We urge local authorities to consider setting aside or acquiring land specifically for this purpose. Collaborative approaches, such as public-private partnerships, could be explored to develop and maintain such a facility.

Additionally, implementing a membership or permit system could help maintain the park and create a sustainable model. By working together, we can address this gap in recreational resources while ensuring safety, and creating a positive impact on Hunterdon County’s economy.
