The Issue

Having personally witnessed the incredible work that Air Ambulance Northern Ireland performs, I cannot stress enough how vital their service is. In critical moments, they are often the difference between life and death. Their rapid response and professional medical treatment provided at the scene can save lives, prevent long-term disabilities, and significantly increase the survival chances for those involved in severe emergencies. Despite their indispensable role, Air Ambulance NI does not receive any government funding, putting their operations at risk.

Air Ambulance NI serves a population of 1.8 million across Northern Ireland, responding to traumatic incidents such as road traffic collisions, agricultural accidents, and other severe emergencies. The air ambulance ensures that critically ill and injured patients receive advanced medical care at the scene and are swiftly transported to the most appropriate hospital. However, the charity requires £2 million annually to remain operational, funds which are currently reliant on public donations and fundraising efforts.

In many developed countries, government support is crucial in sustaining such essential services. According to NHS data, quicker access to emergency medical care can increase survival rates by up to 25%. In rural and hard-to-reach areas, where road travel to hospitals can be challenging and time-consuming, air ambulances are particularly critical. Government funding would allow Air Ambulance NI to expand its service, ensuring timely response to emergencies anywhere in Northern Ireland and continuing to save lives effectively.

The Northern Ireland Executive must recognize the invaluable contribution of Air Ambulance NI to the healthcare system and community at large. Ensuring consistent government funding will secure the future of this life-saving service, relieving some financial pressure from public fundraising and allowing the team to focus entirely on providing emergency care.

Sign this petition to urge the Northern Ireland government to allocate necessary funding for Air Ambulance NI. By doing so, we can ensure that this critical emergency service continues to operate and expand, safeguarding lives across Northern Ireland. Please support this cause and help make a difference.
