Secure gates at Culcheth Park for children's safety
The Issue
Culcheth Park serves as a vital community hub in the heart of Culcheth, offering a much-needed recreational space for families. However, the two main gates of the park currently lack adequate security measures. Without these measures in place, the safety of our children is compromised, as they could inadvertently run within a few seconds into the opposing road and carpark, straight into traffic.
Statistics from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents indicate that approximately 68% of children injured in playing parks suffer accidents due to unsecured surroundings. This startling figure underlines the urgent need for improved safety measures at Culcheth Park especially with the recent death of Noah Woods (age 3) bringing this to the forefront of all parents worlds. By installing secure gates, we can prevent potential accidents and give parents peace of mind, knowing that their children can enjoy the park safely.
Our proposal is simple yet effective: install a double gated system where children can exit the park if required (eg being chased by a dog) but are unable to exit the second gate without the help from an older responsible sibling or caregiver (eg by installing a release button or a child-proof latch). This ensures the child remains securely safe and enclosed until safely opened. This modest change can make a significant difference, making the park safer and more enjoyable for our children.
We urge the Warrington Borough Council to act swiftly and responsibly in addressing this safety concern. By prioritizing this change, we can uphold the park's status as a safe, joyful place for our community's children.
Please lend your support to this vital cause. Every signature counts in making Culcheth Park a secure playground for our children and future generations . Sign this petition to let our voices be heard and ensure the Park is safer for everyone.
