NORTH TEXAS BUFFALO SOLDIERS LAUNCHES STATEWIDE PETITION DRIVE TO SECURE CONGRESSIONAL GOLD MEDAL FOR LEGENDARY BUFFALO SOLDIERS
Long-Standing Organization Champions H.R. 1437, Urges Texans to Honor Overlooked Heroes of American History
CEDAR HILL, TX – May 26, 2025 – North Texas Buffalo Soldiers, Inc., a proud 20-year-old non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the profound legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers, today announced the launch of a signature-gathering initiative across Texas and beyond. This vital campaign aims to rally support for H.R. 1437, the Buffalo Soldiers Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2025, sponsored by Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (D-WA). The Congressional Gold Medal stands as one of the highest civilian honors bestowed by the United States Congress, recognizing individuals or groups for exceptional contributions that have significantly shaped American history and culture.
The proposed award for the Buffalo Soldiers represents a crucial, long-overdue formal acknowledgment of their collective service, immense sacrifices, and enduring historical significance.
"For two decades, our organization has worked tirelessly to ensure the extraordinary story of the Buffalo Soldiers is never forgotten," said Sam Allen, Chairman and Founder of North Texas Buffalo Soldiers, Inc. "Their bravery, resilience, and unwavering dedication, often in the face of pervasive racial discrimination, were instrumental in numerous chapters of American history, from the Western frontier to global conflicts. H.R. 1437 is a pivotal step in officially recognizing these heroes at the highest level of our nation.”
H.R. 1437 seeks to shed further light on the Buffalo Soldiers' pivotal contributions to fostering inclusivity within the U.S. military and broader society. The bill also designates the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) as the recipient institution, ensuring their legacy is permanently preserved and interpreted for future generations. North Texas Buffalo Soldiers, Inc. is actively seeking signatures from across Texas and beyond to demonstrate widespread public support for this critical legislation. Every signature reinforces the collective demand for this long-deserved national honor.”
We urge all Texans and concerned citizens to join us in this effort," added Allen "By signing our petition, you contribute directly to honoring a complex and vital chapter in American history and ensuring the profound contributions of the Buffalo Soldiers are appropriately remembered, cementing their legacy within the nation’s history.
"U.S.A.F. veteran and NTBS board member Stephen Pipkin offers this: “As a young man growing up in Indianapolis, I learned about the Buffalo Soldiers. They served as an example of simply ‘doing your duty’ in service to our nation. It’s important we keep these facts ‘top of mind’ for the next generation.’
