The fight continues! Harriet Tubman was officially chosen as the new face of the $20 bill—a fact at which myself and many others were overjoyed: yet Andrew Jackson will remain on the back of the currency. What does it say about America’s view on African-Americans—our most esteemed freedom fighters—when they place Harriet Tubman, a woman who dedicated her life to freeing slaves, on the front, only to place Andrew Jackson, a man who accumulated wealth by owning slaves, behind her? What will it say to future generations who spend it? That we allowed this insult: stamped a Black face to a foundation of hypocrisy. Do not celebrate symbolic victory at the price of substance. Do not let this blatant duplicity stand.
