In one particular area of UK school education, our children are being exposed to what at best, seems to be a politically-driven bias when it comes to educating about the Israel-Palestinian conflict.

The Pearson Edexcel GCSE History textbook entitled ‘The Middle East: Conflict, Crisis and Change, 1917-2012' is, quite simply, a textbook case of rank anti-Israel bias based on lies and distortions. 

Whilst the bias is carefully constructed and subtle, it is nonetheless toxic. Throughout the book, there are countless examples of manipulation and rewriting history, examples which falsley (and maliciously) portray Israel as a land-grabbing warmonger, whilst whitewashing historical (and sadly still current) anti-Jewish violence.

Every child who has been exposed to this book has been exposed to hardcore anti-Zionist revisionist material, manipulatively delivered through the use of images, misleading maps and distorted statistics and facts.

This will undoubtedly have left too many of them with a very skewed understanding of the actual history behind the conflict which in turn, risks encouraging anti-Israel sentiment and Antisemitism, which breaches sections 406 and 407 of the Education Act 1996.

In a time when extremism threatens our future, when Antisemitism and other forms of racism are on the rise, it is ever more important that our children be taught with balance, without bias and the need to demonstrate humanity to everyone.
