Lung disease and asthma in particular has reached epidemic proportions in this country . 10% of those afflicted with asthma have an extrememly severe form of the disease which responds very poorly to conventional therapies and is responsible for the majority of healthcare costs associated with the disease. Continued research in this area and lung disease in general is crucial if we're ever able to develop better treatment approaches and stop the suffering that these disabling diseases cause.
